Hayathnagar, June 25: Government Degree College, Hayathnagar, observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking with an awareness programme organized by NSS Units I and II on Thursday. The event highlighted the dangers of drug addiction and the collective responsibility of society in creating a drug-free future.
Presiding over the programme, Principal Dr. P. Suresh Babu said International Drug Day serves as a reminder of the need to protect young people from the menace of substance abuse. He cautioned students that drug addiction not only destroys individual lives and careers but also weakens the nation’s future. Education, discipline and strong willpower are the most effective tools to stay away from drugs, he said.
Addressing the gathering as the resource person, Sri Venkat Reddy, Sub-Inspector of Hayathnagar Police Station, warned that drugs may offer temporary pleasure but leave lasting damage to health, family relationships and professional life. He explained that possession of even small quantities of narcotic substances is punishable under the law and urged students to focus on education, sports and positive activities. He also assured police support to those seeking assistance in overcoming addiction.
The programme was coordinated by NSS Programme Officers Dr. E. Yadagiri Reddy and Dr. S. Sarada Devi. Faculty members and a large number of students participated in the awareness campaign.
